Our Restoration Service Process
Here’s a brief overview of how we carry out our comprehensive window restoration service:
- Removing the Sashes: We carefully remove the staff and parting beadings to remove the box's windows. This allows us to sand and paint all parts of the sash frame thoroughly. Removing the sashes also ensures the paint dries properly before re-installation.
- Sanding Down: We sand the sashes back to their original timber using our Festool vacuum sanding system, minimizing dust production. Any dents, chips, or surface imperfections are filled and repaired with a resin timber care system. If necessary, we replace any damaged timber.
- Glass Care: We carefully remove old paint from the glass and re-glaze any broken panes to restore the windows to their former clarity.
- Draught-Proofing: Draught-proof carriers are fitted to the upper and lower sashes, holding the draught-proof brushes in place.
- Painting: Once fully prepared, the windows receive a wood primer followed by two coats of top-coat gloss or satinwood Weathershield paint, ensuring a durable and weather-resistant finish.
- Sash Box Preparation: The sash box is sanded down, and rotten parts are fixed using the timber care system. We replace any necessary timber, check and lubricate the pulleys, and fit new ones. The entire sash box is primed and painted with two coats of top coat gloss or satinwood Weathershield paint.
- Reassembly: The outer sash box cheek is lubricated for smooth operation. We replace the old sash cords with new ones and reattach any additional sash weights. The upper sash is attached to the upper cords and slid into place, followed by installing new wooden parting beads. The exact process is repeated for the lower sash.
- Final Touches: Once the sashes are re-installed with the new draught-proofed beadings, a final trim coat of paint is applied, completing the restoration process.
Please note: While we strive to reduce draughts by up to 95%, we maintain a careful balance to ensure your windows function smoothly and effectively.
